In a 2025 kind of world, I'm glad I got my girls!

Hey there!

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate, and I have the honor of holding space for this therapy group created specifically for Queer Black women. As a Queer Black woman myself, I’m deeply passionate about co-creating spaces where we can show up fully, be seen, and be supported in our healing and growth. This group is a place where we center our unique experiences, share our truths, and build community together. I’m excited to walk alongside you in this space where self-care and community-care come together.

Healing Through Sisterhood

SAMPLE TOPICS

Group topics rotate month to month. Here are a couple examples.

How Does Healing Look For You?

Participants will reflect on what healing means in their personal journeys as Queer Black women. How do you define healing for yourself? What practices, relationships, or beliefs support your growth? We will explore how healing can be an ongoing, non-linear process, and how to honor your progress along the way.

How Do You Hold Space for Joy?

In a world that often demands resilience, participants will explore the role of joy as a form of resistance and self-care. What brings you joy, and how often do you prioritize it? How do you navigate feelings of guilt or discomfort when choosing joy? Together, we’ll discuss how to create and protect spaces for joy in your daily life

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate?

Queer Black women (18+) living in Texas are welcome to participate. We recognize the diversity within our community and affirm all Queer Black women, regardless of relationship status, gender expression, or life experience. Most group members tend to be in their 20s to 40s, but if this group resonates with you and you fall outside of that range, we invite you to schedule an intake to see if it’s the right fit.

Despite being virtual, participants must also be physically in the state of Texas for all sessions.

Can I try it out first?

This group requires a monthly commitment. During your intake, you’ll have an opportunity to meet with me, ask questions, and explore if the group feels like a good fit. Consistency helps foster safety, trust, and community among members. While you can stop attending at any time, the financial commitment is for the full month. We are unable to offer refunds or roll over missed sessions.

Can I choose which sessions to attend?

We ask that all members commit to attending the group weekly for the month(s) they sign up for, barring emergencies. Showing up regularly builds trust and deepens the sense of community. Even if a session topic doesn’t directly apply to your current experience, your insights and presence may be meaningful to someone else in the group. Before the group begins, members will be surveyed to help shape the topics covered so the experience feels relevant and responsive.

Can I do this instead of individual counseling?

Group therapy offers unique benefits like shared experiences and community support but is not a substitute for individual counseling. Some topics that arise in the group may lead you to explore personal issues more deeply in individual therapy. If you are not currently seeing an individual therapist, we can discuss whether working with someone one-on-one would be helpful. I’m happy to offer referrals if needed.

What topics are discussed?

Topics are shaped by the group but may include exploring intersectional identity, navigating relationships, internalized homophobia, healing from trauma, self-acceptance, community care, and joy as resistance. Before we start, members will have an opportunity to share areas they’d like to explore so the group is relevant to their experiences and interests.

Is it confidential?

As the facilitator, I uphold strict confidentiality in line with my ethical obligations as a therapist. Group members are also expected to respect each other’s privacy and maintain confidentiality. Our group works best when there is mutual trust, and any violation of confidentiality will result in dismissal from the group.

Can my friend join with me?

Yes, as long as both of you are committed to honoring the group’s agreements around confidentiality and creating a safe space. What happens in group stays in group—discussing group content outside of our sessions, even with a friend who attends, is a breach of confidentiality. If you’re interested in opportunities to explore healing in friendship groups, I’m happy to discuss other options with you.

Will my intersectional identities be affirmed?

Absolutely. This group is intentionally designed to affirm the intersectional experiences of Queer Black women. We center safety, respect, and accountability within the group so everyone can show up as their full, authentic selves. While we recognize that we are all learning and unlearning, the group space is rooted in mutual support, not shame. We actively work to create an environment where oppressive attitudes or behaviors are not tolerated.

Can I join if I'm nervous or a reserved person ?

Yes! Whether you’re outgoing or quiet, there’s space for you here. You are welcome to show up exactly as you are. We’ll honor your pace and encourage you to engage in ways that feel authentic, while also supporting your growth and comfort over time.

Can I do the group if I've participated in other groups at Chill?

Yes. Whether this is your first therapy group or you’ve participated in others before, you are welcome here. Each group experience is unique, and this one is specifically created to center the voices and experiences of Queer Black women.

If I change my mind, can I be refunded?

All payments are non-refundable. Payment is required to confirm your intake appointment and will not be refunded or transferred. If you need to reschedule your intake with less than 24 hours’ notice, you will need to pay the intake fee again. If you commit to the group and pay for the month but later decide not to attend, we cannot offer refunds or transfer fees to future months. If we’re able to fill your spot before the group begins, we may offer a partial refund (minus the intake fee).

Ready to Get Started?

Click the button below to fill out the intake form to get scheduled for your one-on-one intake assessment with the group facilitator.

The intake assessment is designed to support the Livin’ Liberated group before it begins and lay the foundation for our sacred space. During the intake, we will begin building our therapeutic relationship (especially if you are also signing up for individual sessions), identify your therapeutic goals, and ensure that the virtual group meeting space is the best platform fit for you to meet those goals.

If it is determined that the group will not be the most suitable option for meeting your needs, we will assist you in finding a mental health provider or resource better aligned to meet your specific needs.
